YEAIS serves middle and high school students through hands-on after-school, weekend, and summer programming designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and open pathways to future careers. Our students engage in applied mathematics, coding, robotics, and engineering challenges while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Through our affiliation with NSBE Jr. (Creative and Striving Hard chapter), students access nationally recognized STEM curricula, including artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering, and participate in competitive teams such as MATHCOUNTS and Ten80. Programming is further enriched through an Electric Vehicle Drag Racing Team, a Summer STEM Camp, college tours, tutoring, cultural and career exploration experiences, and mentorship from local professionals.
YEAIS is committed to ensuring that all students—regardless of background—have meaningful opportunities to learn, explore, and thrive.

Our vision is to empower youth in the Lusby community to grow academically, make positive choices, and confidently explore future careers through engaging STEM learning, mentorship, and real-world experiences.
Youth Education and After-School Initiative Services (YEAIS) will deliver a year-long, phased STEM enrichment program serving up to 50 middle and high school students in the Lusby area. Youth Education and After-School Initiative Services (YEAIS) will deliver a year-long, phased STEM enrichment program serving up to 50 middle and high school students in the Lusby area. Programming is designed to build academic skills, promote positive youth development, and provide meaningful exposure to STEM careers through hands-on learning, competition, and enrichment experiences.
Core programming includes after-school workshops in robotics, artificial intelligence, coding, and applied mathematics, along with tutoring support to reinforce academic skill development. Students will participate in multiple STEM workshops and engage in local and regional competitions. The EV Drag Racing Team will progress through design, testing, and practice races in preparation for spring competition, offering students a real-world engineering experience that emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance.
To deepen learning and broaden career awareness, YEAIS will deliver a one-week Summer STEM Camp, a college tour to a STEM-focused university, cultural arts enrichment experiences, career exploration activities, and participation in the NSBE Annual Conference. These experiences are designed to connect classroom learning to real-world applications, expose students to higher education and professional pathways, and build motivation and confidence.
